About Us

Conwy Disability Cooking Programme

The Disability Cooking Programme is a supportive, inclusive programme designed to help individuals with disabilities build confidence and independence in the kitchen. Developed in partnership with community services, the group focuses on healthy eating, budget-friendly cooking, and practical food skills that make everyday life easier.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to live healthier, more independent lives through accessible, supportive cooking education. By providing practical kitchen skills, nutrition guidance, and a safe community space, we aim to build confidence, promote healthy eating, and encourage greater self sufficiency. The programme forms part of a wider commitment to enhancing quality of life, reducing food waste, supporting sustainable living, and strengthening community engagement through inclusive skill building opportunities.

Our Sessions

Our sessions take place in accessible community kitchens such as those at the Douglas Road Centre, where participants learn everything from basic knife skills and food hygiene to preparing full meals that support healthier lifestyles. Guided by trained staff and supported by resources from dietetics teams, each session is adapted to meet individual abilities and learning needs, ensuring everyone can progress at their own pace.

How it works

  1. Email wellbeing@conwy.gov.uk with details of the person needing cooking support.
  2. Our team will review the referral and contact you to discuss the best support option.
  3. You may be offered a place in a cooking group, 1:1 cooking sessions or support delivered in a supported living project.
